Kazakhstan’s experience in the field of mental health care will be represented by Sagat Altynbekov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, President of the Association of Mental Health professionals of the Republic of Kazakhstan, at the Congress on Mental Health: Meeting the Needs of the XXI Century.

About the Association of Mental Health Professionals

The Association is governed by the law  of  “On Non-governmental Organizations” and the Health Care Legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It functions in accordance with international principles, norms and standards based on member equality, self-governance, legality, disclosure and transparency.

The Association was created with the aim of developing and enhancing mental health care; protecting mental health professionals’ lawful rights and interests; and developing and enhancing scientific, educational, social, charitable and administrative programs in the sphere of mental health protection of the population.

Branches of the Association of Mental Health Professionals have been created in every region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and over 2,000 doctors and junior medical staff have joined the regional branches. The activities of the Association include regular Republic-level conferences and round-table discussions, the most significant of which are timed to coincide with the Association’s annual meetings and are dedicated to critical issues of the medical, social and legal aspects of psychiatry. Members of the Association of Mental Health professionals are regular participants of international congresses, conferences and seminars.
