WPA XVII WORLD CONGRESS OF PSYCHIATRY (WCP 2017)

The WPA WORLD CONGRESS OF PSYCHIATRY, which takes place every three years, is one of the most important scientific congresses in the field of psychiatry and psychotherapy. In 2017 this outstanding event will be held on 8 – 12 October in Germany’s capital, Berlin, and jointly hosted by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) and the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN).
The theme of the WPA XVII WORLD CONGRESS, “Psychiatry of the 21st Century: Context, Controversies and Commitment”, is an invitation to take stock of recent developments and evidence-based findings in the field of psychiatry and their implications for diagnosis, treatment and education. The scientific programme will address all relevant mental disorders and concentrate on biological and psychotherapeutic topics and social psychiatry. The core programme will encompass several current issues and topics, including population movements, psychiatry and society and human rights and also examine health policy-related, social and cultural issues from the perspective of mental health. Renowned experts from all over the world, such as Fabrizio Benedetti (Italy), Shekhar Saxena (Switzerland), Linda Lam (China) and Michael Meaney (Canada), will give insights into current findings from science and care. The educational programme of the congress will also allow you to study certain topics in more depth and update your knowledge.
Besides providing a platform for knowledge exchange the WPA XVII WORLD CONGRESS OF PSYCHIATRY is dedicated to promoting communication and networking between psychiatrists, nursing and allied health professionals and associations of service users and family carers. The Scientific Committee plans to organise numerous Joint Symposia with speakers representing the full range of stakeholders – professionals, service users and family carers – to provide different perspectives on topics. These sessions will be called “trialogues” to underline their multi-angle concept.
Enrich the congress programme with your scientific contribution and share your insights with other professionals. Whether in a fascinating symposium, informative workshop or interesting poster presentation, scientists and practitioners have many and varied opportunities to actively participate in the WPA XVII WORLD CONGRESS OF PSYCHIATRY.
