The initiative is supported by the United Nations (UN) and World Health Organization (WHO). In Russia the World Mental Health Day has been celebrated since 2002. Every year the World Mental Health Day celebration is held within the framework of a Mental Health Week or Mental Health Month organized in different countries and certain regions.
The overall objective of the memorable day is to promote global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma.
Mental health in the workplace was chosen the theme of World Mental Health Day in 2017. Depression and anxiety disorders as the leading causes of disability are suggested as the focus topics.
This year the World Health Organization meets the World Mental Health Day with its eventful agenda of the mhGAP Forum, held in Geneva on 9-10 October. The WHO Mental Health Gap Action Programme Forum provides an opportunity to discuss the implementation of WHO’s Mental Health Action Plan and mental health services’ improvement methods.
