Sagat A. Altynbekov, President of the Association of Mental Health Specialists of Kazakhstan has joined the International Organizing Committee

Sagat A. Altynbekov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, President of the Association of Mental Health Specialists of the Republic of Kazakhstan; member of the Higher Attestation Commission; and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Narcology of the S.D. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, and Director of the Republican Scientific Practical Center of Psychiatrics, Psychotherapy and Narcology of the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has joined the International Organizing Committee of the Congress on Mental Health: Meeting the Needs of the XXI Century.

He graduated from the Semipalatinsk State Medical University and served his residency at the Semipalatinsk Regional Psychiatric Hospital. He advanced from a position as psychiatrist to the head of the Pavlodar Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary. In December 2000, he established and became the head of the first scientific and practical center in Kazakhstan: “The Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Medical and Social Problems of Drug Addiction” in Pavlodar.

He attained the Candidate of Sciences degree (a first post-graduate scientific degree in countries of the former Soviet Union) in Psychology in 2001 and the Doctor of Sciences degree (terminal degree) in Psychology and Narcology in 2005. He has been the director of the Republican Scientific Practical Center of Psychiatrics, Psychotherapy and Narcology of the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the chief psychiatric consultant to the Ministry of Healthcare and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan since August 2005.

Sagat A. Altynbekov has published 5 monographs, textbooks, over 100 scientific articles and other books, among which the most significant are “All About Drug Addiction in Kazakhstan”, Pavlodar 2002; “Organization of Drug Addiction Treatment in the Republic of Kazakhstan”, Karaganda 2004; “Medical Aspects of Countering Drug Addiction in Kazakhstan”, Pavlodar 2006 etc. He is a regular participant of international conferences, congresses and seminars.
